The Only Thing Cheap About Our TWIN DNA Testing Is The Price
Quality Legal Twin DNA Testing
Twin DNA testing determines whether siblings are fraternal twins or identical twins. A Legal twin zygosity DNA test may be used for legal court cases or in some cases it can be used to help solve any health problems the twins may encounter later down the road in life. A perfect example, if one of the twins needs an organ or tissue transplant, the identical twin is very often the most perfect match.
About Twin DNA Testing
Identical twins are formed from one fertilized egg. In early development, this fertilized egg, called a zygote, which usually develops into one individual child, splits to form two identical embryos. Because the twins both come from the same one egg and the same one sperm, they have the same DNA.
Fraternal twins however, develop from two different eggs fertilized by two individual sperm cells. Fraternal twins do not have exactly the same DNA, although they share some of the DNA, which they inherit from both parents. In some rare cases, fraternal twins may actually have different fathers.
Sometimes, before birth the doctor may be able to tell whether the conceived twins are identical or fraternal through an ultrasound examination. Or, determine this when the twins are born by doing an examination of the placenta.
These methods are not 100% accurate, however. Additionally, medical records regarding zygosity get lost, or doubts arise due to physical characteristics. Scientists recommend twin DNA testing to determine the zygosity of twins if the question lingers. In such cases, only by performing a twin DNA testing will you be able to reveal the truth regarding zygosity. A twin zygosity DNA test compares the twins’ DNA profiles to see whether they match—an exact match proves that the twins are identical while anything other than an exact match indicates the twins are fraternal.
AABB Chain Of Custody Requirements
The AABB guidelines stipulate that a legal twin DNA test must have a valid chain of custody to be admissible in court or accepted for use in any legal matter. Simply put, chain of custody refers to the DNA collection in the presence of a medical professional and the legal identification and consent of the test participants. In any legal DNA testing case, a neutral medical professional who is unbiased as to the outcome of the test must perform the collection.
Our lab is staffed by top-notch PhD geneticists who oversee each test using the most advanced, state of the art testing technology. In reality, many smaller labs are not AABB accredited; they merely claim to be. They sell you a legal DNA test, then when samples are sent in, they forward them to another lab (of their choosing) for processing. This extra step not only risks the viability of your DNA swabs but also delays your test results. With PaternityUSA, your DNA test samples go directly to our world renown AABB accredited laboratory, DDC (DNA Diagnostic Center).
Why We Stand Above The Others
Smaller companies advertise cheap legal DNA testing, and allow participants to choose anyone as their own collector. Surprisingly, they even mail the collection kit right to the client. Please beware - this practice does not follow chain of custody requirements. Their cheap DNA zygosity test may end up being very costly to your family in the long run.
It's a direct violation of AABB requirements for anyone associated with the legal twin test to be in the possession of the collection kit. This includes a test participant, any family members or friends. When someone with an interest in the test result has access to collection supplies, there could easily be a suspicion of tampering. For this reason, we never ship a legal DNA collection kit to anyone other than a medical professional.
Secondly, a legally binding zygosity test must be collected by a medical professional. With PaternityUSA.com, you can use your doctor for the DNA collection, or opt for professional collection service at one of our more than 5,000 clinic locations. Again, having someone who is known to the test participant act as a collector, or "witness" the DNA collection, does not meet AABB standards. A collection by an associate, friend or family member can easily be discredited; causing you to have to pay for another test.
A legal test conducted outside of the chain of custody is easily contested and disputed in court; and more importantly will not stand up as evidence.
In contrast, we don't bend guidelines or take any risk of injuring your case. Our lab follows every AABB requirement. This helps to ensure your result stands up in any legal matter facing your family. We understand the need for DNA testing is usually accompanied by an emotionally taxing burden. As such, we handle every case with care and confidentiality.
The Legal Twin Zygosity DNA Testing Process
The legal twin DNA testing process is quite simple. When you place your order, you may choose to use our professional collection service (collection at one of our clinic locations) or have a test collection kit shipped free to your doctor's office.
If you choose to use your own doctor for the collection, simply provide the doctor's address when you place your order. We ship a legal DNA collection kit to them. We also provide a prepaid return mailer in the collection kit for their convenience. Before you order, please check with your doctor to make sure they agree to provide this service.
Or if you prefer, opt for our professional collection option for a full service Twin Zygosity test. A consultant will give you a call to schedule your appointment at your convenience. We have over 5,000 clinic locations across the country to serve your collection needs.
After the collection, the samples and chain of custody documents go directly to the lab. When received, we email you a confirmation email to let you know testing is underway. If you order email test result delivery, we email a PDF document of your notarized test result as soon as testing is complete. A hard copy is mailed to the billing address on your order. We do not ship anything to you other than the result for our legal reconstruction tests.
DNA Collection
The collection process is very simple. DNA is collected through a cheek swab, also known as a buccal swab, which is painlessly rubbed against the inside of the cheek. Our accredited lab conducts all of our DNA zygosity tests twice. For this reason we collect 4 swabs per person. The test participants should refrain from drinking coffee or tea or smoking for 3-4 hours before the DNA collection.
Other relationship testing that you may want to consider includes sibling DNA testing, grandparent or avuncular DNA testing, or a family reconstruction DNA test.
